Tampa Bay is likelier to pass: Slafkovsky is a substantial long-term return, but trading Kucherov while chasing a Cup would remove the scorer its attack runs through. Montréal could justify the swing after an Eastern Conference Final run, yet giving up Slafkovsky and a potentially conveying first for one guaranteed season of Kucherov is a steep bet.

- 2027 4th round pick

- 2027 1st round pickIf Tampa Bay makes the postseason
Why the model says so
Kucherov could lift Montréal’s offense immediately, but Slafkovsky’s age and six remaining years after this season make him hard to sacrifice for an expiring star, especially with a conditional first attached.
Slafkovsky and a likely-to-convey first are a serious offer, but Dach’s injury limits his immediate help. Tampa Bay would probably keep Kucherov for its Cup run.
The deal
Montréal Canadiens acquire Nikita Kucherov and a 2027 4th-round pick (TBL) from the Tampa Bay Lightning for Juraj Slafkovsky, Kirby Dach and a 2027 1st-round pick (MTL, conditional).
Team by team
Montréal would get an elite scorer for another playoff run: Kucherov had 130 points last season and has 18 in 13 games. But his $9.5 million cap hit and modified no-trade clause complicate a deal, and he can become a UFA after this season; Tampa Bay’s fourth-rounder adds little.
Tampa Bay would get a 22-year-old, 30-goal winger in Slafkovsky, signed at $7.6 million for six more years after this one. Dach is on injured reserve, has a $3.6 million expiring deal and has played only 37 games last season; Montréal’s first-rounder conveys only if Tampa Bay makes the playoffs, though that looks plausible for a contender.
