Detroit is more likely to pass: even with Larkin suspended and his no-trade clause limiting the market, this package looks light for both him and Edvinsson. Boston would likely take the talent upgrade, but it must be comfortable with Larkin’s long-term cap commitment and signing Edvinsson.

- 2027 1st round pick
Why the model says so
Boston gets a proven top-line center and a young first-pair defenseman without giving up a premium projected pick. Larkin’s suspension and $8.7 million commitment keep it from being an automatic yes.
Letourneau and Boston’s first carry the future value, while Zacha and Lohrei can play now. That is still a thin return for Larkin and Edvinsson together, even allowing for Larkin’s limited trade market.
The deal
Boston Bruins acquire Simon Edvinsson and Dylan Larkin from the Detroit Red Wings for Pavel Zacha, Mason Lohrei, Dean Letourneau and a 2027 1st-round pick (BOS).
Team by team
Boston’s 11-4-1 start makes a push tempting, but its projected bubble roster would be committing to Larkin’s $8.7 million cap hit for this season and four more. He scored 34 goals last season, though his current suspension delays any help; Edvinsson is a 23-year-old first-pair defenseman who needs a new RFA deal.
Detroit gets a 2027 Boston first that currently looks likely to fall later in the round, plus Letourneau, an unsigned 2024 No. 25 pick whose rights it would hold. Zacha scored 30 goals last season but can become a UFA after this one; Lohrei is a young offensive defenseman at $3.2 million who will need an RFA deal.
