The Werenski/Voronkov package for Rielly, Knies, Domi, and a 2027 first is rich enough that Columbus at least has to think about it. They’re the better team right now and moving their 1D with an NMC mid‑competitive cycle is a big ask, but getting a younger top‑pair LD in Rielly, a cost‑controlled top‑six winger in Knies, plus a first is fair value, especially if they have any concern about re‑upping Werenski at a big number in a year. Voronkov for Domi is roughly a wash in the short term with more team control on the Columbus side going out, which is why Knies plus the first are important sweeteners. From Toronto’s side, the move is cap‑neutral enough to help them get closer to compliance and doesn’t create roster‑size issues. The only real stretch is convincing a 92‑point Jackets team to move a star defenseman with a NMC when they’re trying to push forward, but the return is substantial and not out of line with recent high‑end D trades. If Werenski is willing to waive for Toronto, this is a plausible hockey trade rather than a fantasy heist.
